Access to Hamamatsu
- There are a few possible airport options from overseas countries and the major ones are Tokyo Haneda airport (NHD) and Tokyo Narita airport (NRT), Nagoya Chubu Centrair airport (NGO), and Kansai International Airport (KIX). Below are possible options for you to take.
- From HND:
- Take Tokyo monorail (MO) to Hamamatsu-cho station (MO01, JY28, HMC) [13-20 min] and take a JR Yamanote (JY) line to Tokyo station (JY01, TYO) [7 min] and take a Shinkansen (Hikari [90min]) or Kodama [120 min] ) to Hamamatsu station.
- Take Keikyu (KK) Line to Shinagawa station (KK01, SGW) [12-17 min] and take a Shinkansen (Hikari [80 min] or Kodama [110 min]) to Hamamatsu station.

- From KIX:
- Take Airport Express HARUKA to Shin-Osaka [50 min]. From Shin-Osaka, take a Shinkansen (Hikari [85 min] or Kodama [120 min]) to Hamamatsu station. Also, there are many other train or bus options available to get to the central Osaka. Details are here.
- [Extra information]
- For transit information, use: Jordan, Google Maps Transit, etc.
- Because Sept 14 to Sept 16 are consecutive holidays including the Respect-Older-People Day, it is better to use advance seat reservation for Shinkansen especially in Sept 13 (Friday) evening and Sept 14 (Saturday) morning. Reservations for Shinkansens’ seats can be made 1 month before the boarding date. See: Tokaido Sanyo Shinkansen Reservation App
- You can also try a non-reserved seat. Please line up for non-reserved cars at Tokyo or Shin-Osaka station. Kodama (7 or more non-reserved cars/16 cars) may have more chance to get your seat than Hikari (5 non-reserved cars/16 cars).
- Information on Hamamatsu can be searched on Hamamatsu Daisuki Net. There are many outdoor and indoor activities available. We hope that you plan ahead and can have a good time in Hamamatsu in September.
- If you plan to spend some time in Japan besides participating in the conference, you may want to get Japan Rail Pass that is only available for foreign tourists. It is a good deal especially if you take Shinkansen multiple times. However, please note that you can make seat reservations only at the ticket counter (“Midori-no-Madoguchi”) by showing your rail pass.
- If you are coming from Korea or China, using LCC might be an option and some of them may be flying to Shizuoka Airport (FSZ). You may check to see if there is any availability. How to get to Hamamatsu to FSZ is taking a free bus provided by Fuji Dream Airlines to Kakegawa station and take JR Tokaido line or a Shinkansen to Hamamatsu station.
